A fully manufactured prototype
Ongoing analysis, research and reflection
4.4.4.5 Section E: Realising design ideas (20 marks)
Students will work with a range of appropriate materials/components to produce prototypes that are accurate and within close tolerances. This will involve using specialist tools and equipment, which may include hand tools, machines or CAM/CNC. The prototypes will be constructed through a range of techniques, which may involve shaping, fabrication, construction and assembly. The prototypes will have suitable finish with functional and aesthetic qualities, where appropriate. Students will be awarded marks for the quality of their prototype(s) and how it addresses the design brief and design specification based on a contextual challenge.
Reminder: Analysis and evaluation should be an ongoing process of reflection and iteration.

It is important to document your manufacturing journey; identifying technical skills and reflecting upon the process as you go.
The slides opposite walk you through what should be included in a diary of manufacture and how you might choose present your work. there are also several student examples.
Once you have followed your manufacturing plan to complete your product manufacture, you may present images of your final product however you wish providing images are relevant and show important features, functions and skills. It is advisable to include a photo of your product in the situation it is intended for. For example, if you have designed a table lamp for a living room, photograph your product in a living room, on a table.
The slides opposite walk you through what to include in your final product photographs and how to layout the final product page.
